Buongiorno from Roma! I still can’t believe it’s been 2 weeks since I returned home from Europe, time just flies. I’m so excited to share what might be my favorite shoot from my trip with Julie. Ahhh, although it’s so tough to have an actual favorite!! We created so much incredible content together, it was literally feeding my creative soul in so many ways. Y’all have no idea. When you truly love creating, waking up at 4AM to put makeup on your face and take pictures doesn’t seem so bad. It always surprises me, for someone who is NOT a morning person, when I have a super fun shoot I’m excited about, sunrise doesn’t phase me haha.

This was my sudo-second time visiting Rome. The first was an 8-hour off the boat stint, so take that ‘trip’ as you will. We did end up seeing quite a bit of the city in those short 8 hours, but to me that’s not really experiencing a destination. The culture, the language, the people. You know? Although there are certainly prettier places in Italy, I was really excited to have the opportunity to stay and explore Rome for a few days with my photographer and dear friend Julie Livingston! There is so so much to see in Rome, so again, super tough to narrow this down, but I wanted to challenge myself to share my personal 5 must-sees in Rome. Here you have it!

5 Must-Sees in Rome, Italy

  1. Visit the Colosseum at Sunrise | I am most certainly not a morning person, but waking up at the crack of dawn to see such a magnificent piece of history before all the tourists arrived was just serene. Pick up a coffee and a pastry along the way. It’s a great way to start your day, and really hit the ground running.
  2. Vatican City | even if you don’t have time to go inside St. Peter’s Basilica {I’ve actually never been inside myself – next trip!}, a visit to Vatican City is a must. Beautiful architecture, history, and things that are truly unique to any other place in the world.
  3. Trastevere | visit this historic neighborhood walkable from Rome’s city center. Have a bite and/or a drink at PIMMS {not much to look at, but I promise it won’t disappoint}! Trastevere is known for it’s nightlife scene, so if you find yourself there in the later evening, check out Niji Cafe for craft cocktails and super cool vibes.
  4. Trevi Fountain | sadly, when I visited the fountain it was under construction and didn’t even have water flowing! BUT, it’s a sight you just can’t miss, and you must toss a coin {over your left shoulder} for good luck of course. Fun fact – the $1.5 million collected at the fountain each year is collected and used to subsidize a supermarket for Rome’s needy. Try to get early morning {or have a really long selfie stick haha} if you’re looking for snaps without a million people.
  5. Dinner at Felice | if you’re looking for THE best Cacio de Pepe in your life…look no further. Felice’s table side spun pasta is legendary, and for good reason. It’s out. of. this. world. good. I can’t recommend enough!

And there you have it! While there is of course a ton to see in this historic city, these are my personal 5 must-sees in Rome during your trip. Have any recommendations?! Please do share in the comments so others reading and planning their trips might have some things to add!
