Welcome to the inspiration behind our cozy Sitting Room! While I am so excited to tackle the decor in this room myself, it isn’t a super high priority room for us. So this is kind of like an eventually project! Just off the foyer to the right, this space will be the main cross path to the kitchen and the back area of the house; which includes the powder bath + Family Room. I’d love for it to ooze old world charm with warm + inviting tones. Thinking layers of rich greens, dusty rose, brown wood tones + black, with touches of chinoiserie of course.
Will just be focusing on a few other spaces first, but it will come in time. And honestly, I’m excited to use that time to really get to know the home, how we live in it and use the different rooms.
It was originally the formal dining room for the previous owners, but we’ll be making it a cozy sitting room and utilizing a larger room to the left of the foyer as a formal dining. Hopefully complete with a game table, marble top console/chest, an antique love seat or two and lots of printed layers. The window seat has been expanded to have a deeper seat, which will be perfect for reading! I’ve already had the windows measured for shutters, and we’re going with raised panel cafe shutters with dainty brass knobs. Think they’re add a lot of character to these rooms.
Wall Color Struggle
I originally thought I was dead set on Farrow & Ball’s Sulking Room Pink {as seen to the right} for our sitting room. But after deliberating with our designer Jennifer, we both felt it wasn’t the best route. I absolutely love this color, but it reads a bit more eggplant in our room. And sometimes lighting is everything when it comes to paint.
So we’re exploring some other hues, including Benjamin Moore’s Louisburg Green and Chippendale Rosetone – both are part of Benjamin Moore’s historic collection, and would suit the rest of the home.
Or we could go totally rouge and continue the warm Dove White from the foyer into the sitting room. To be continued…
Lighting Selections
One of the few things that has actually been determined for our cozy sitting room, is the lighting. And mainly because we have to have all wall lights installed prior to inspections, so couldn’t drag my feet on this one.
I went with this stunning mother of pearl, Rosehill Large Semi-Flush Mount by Aerin for the main room light. Then these darling oil bronze sconses for either side of the seating nook. Love the idea of the black shades really popping off of whatever wall color we end up going with. And lastly, a brass picture light above a beautiful piece of art.
