Nantucket is full of its’ charm and beauty all around the island. If you find yourself visiting and are in need of a scenic evening, I highly recommend making your way to one of the island’s many beaches for the sunset. Stop by Bartlett Farms on the way for a few snacks, and we’ve got yourself a beach picnic! Or get dressed up for a night out, all the while taking in some breathtaking views.
There are a plethora of beautiful sunset spots in Nantucket, but here are several I’ve experienced firsthand and thoroughly enjoyed!
Madaket Beach
One of the nights on island, the gals and I decided to have a casual night watching the sunset at Madaket Beach. It’s a beautiful, small and pretty secluded spot on the southwest part of the island. The ocean is typically calm in this area, so there’s a beautiful reflection of hues as the sun sets. While it can be crowed in summer {we were lucky during our visit and had the beach to ourselves!}, it’s quite peaceful in the slower months.
After you’ve enjoy a few sunset sips on Madaket Beach, head over to Millie’s for dinner! Millie’s is a Nantucket staple; a casual dining spot with indoor/outdoor seating, serving up fresh fish + tacos with a bit of a Mexican spin. The street corn is a must!
The Galley
During my 2019 Nantucket trip in September, I experienced sunset at Galley Beach, and oh what a treat! Another sunset spot in Nantucket to must certainly add to your list! Definitely more of an upscale vibe, so even though you have the option to dine in the stand, this is a spot you can easily dress up in heels/wedges for the occasion. Everything about Galley Beach just oozes quintessential Nantucket island for me. The chilled rose, lounges + couches in the sand, fire-pits on the beach, good music – all of it. In addition to a great wine selection, their cocktails are spot on – including a great mocktail line-up!
Endeavor Sailing
While we didn’t book the Endeavor for a sunset-specific cruise, it would be an epic location to watch the sun fall beyond the horizon. Captain James and his crew are so kind, and truly make their sailing experience aboard this historic, hand built wooden sailboat unique and special. You’re welcome to bring your own snacks + drinks aboard as well. The boat is docked just steps away from downtown Nantucket, making it the perfect destination to kick-off, or end your evening with. If you can snag a reservation, I can’t recommend CRU enough! It’s steps away from where the Endeavor docks, and would be perfect for dinner before/after a sail.
Other notable sunset spots in Nantucket contenders include:
- Cisco Beach
- Smith’s Point
- The Wauwinet
