There are so many things to love about Charleston in the fall, but one of my favorites has to be the fact that I finally have the opportunity to entertain outdoors! Whether you’re fall porch hosting, or entertaining in your courtyard, these tips should help your guests feel all the fall feels.
Y’all may remember my spring picnic with AVA Grace Vineyards back in May. Well, we’re partnering again today to share a slightly different take on pairing their varietals for fall!
Tips for Fall Porch Hosting
- FLAVORS MATTER | Fall porch hosting is all about re-introducing your guests to the rich flavors of the season that have been missing all those summer months. A solid cheese board is always a good idea {love anything Cowgirl Creamery puts together}, but think of pairing your nutty cheeses with figs, apricots, wild berry jam and pepper jelly. For sips, I love AVA Grace’s light and airy Rosé or Pinot Grigio during those transitional days {not too hot or too chilly}, or their Red Blend for richer/bolder pairings. Trust me, these options won’t disappoint on flavors, and all my friends love their fun, colorful labels! They make for great hostess gifts as well.
- COLOR COORDINATE | Out with the peonies and roses, hello mums and dahlias! Not that it needs to be over the top, but fresh florals add so much to any entertaining set-up. I normally lean more toward the ‘neutral’ fall colors {white pumpkins and mums}, but this year I’m fully embracing all that’s in season for fall. Bring on the burgundy, burnt orange and mustard! One of my favorite details of this spread, is the precious mini mum plant. I potted in a mini ginger jar I typically keep in the kitchen for sugar. It’s an easy touch, but adds a little character. Think of re-purposing containers you may already have around the house for a fresh take!
- ATTIRE | There’s a time to dress up and be fancy with your gal pals, but I like to try and keep things a little more casual at home. When I’m fall porch hosting I want people to feel like they don’t have to put on their Sunday best. This level of comfortability starts with the host. Opt for jeans and a cozy sweater, or sweater dress and flats. It will put your guests at ease, and allow them to hopefully feel right at home as well. Heck – usually by the end of my get togethers, everyone is walking around barefoot!
