Sterling and I are nearing two years of marriage {wow how time flies}, and I feel now is a good time to reflect on our registry experience and process. We went back and forth a lot on where to register for our big day, but ultimately went with Macy’s based on their amazing selection {and a lot of exclusive items} and accessibility for all our family members across the country. Today, in partnership with Macy’s + to help promote their $10,000 cash sweepstakes for an engaged couple with a current Macy’s Registry {say whaaaaaaat?!}. LAST DAY TO ENTER! NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States including District of Columbia, 18 years and older with a Qualified Registry. Ends 1/31/18. For Official Rules: macys.com/weddingsweeps. Void where prohibited. I’m breaking down my tips for day-of registering, along with what we registered for and actually use a ton.
TIPS FOR YOUR REGISTRY DAY:
- Brides, bring your Mom along! This was something I was hesitant about at first, I thought to myself ‘this is something special my husband-to-be and I should do’…right? Honestly it’s not a romantic day, it’s more decision-making about practical items you want in your home – something that Mom’s are perfect at giving advice on. Take advantage of that! My Mom really helped guide me throughout the different departments, and kept going with me when Sterling was burnt out.
- Eat beforehand. There’s nothing worse than virtually shopping on an empty stomach. OR, if you plan your registry time to overlap one of Macy’s register events, those are catered and you can grab a nibble in the store.
- If you and your partner already live together, or have an extensive home goods collection, take inventory of what you already have before entering Macy’s. You may think you’ll remember everything you have at home, but I promise you won’t. There are so many amazing options available at Macy’s you’ll probably want it all, but knowing what you may not need duplicates of will come in handy.
- Make sure you’re providing varying price range options for your guests to consider. Of course you know your guests better than anyone, but keep in mind not everyone has the same budget. It’s easy to get trigger happy when you’re surrounded by so many beautiful pieces, but try to also be conscious of having options under $50, under $100, in addition to those exciting higher priced items.
REGISTRY ESSENTIALS:
- FINE CHINA: I can’t stress this enough. It’s something every woman will use at some point in her life. Whether you see yourself using it within the first couple years of marriage or not, having your own set of fine china for future entertaining is important. I’d suggest going with a simpler, classic design that will stand the test of time and trends. We opted for Kate Spade’s ‘Sugar Pointe’ China and have loved it. It’s super versatile, with a touch of ladylike class in the form of a scalloped edge. I’ve been able to easily pair it with other accent plates for a completely different look and feel for every event, so it doesn’t feel like the same ‘ol china year after year. Accents plates are key, but something that you can add to your collection over time – these can also be more trendy.
- GLASSWARE: I primarily drink wine and Sterling whiskey, so it was important for us to build a great collection of quality glassware. Regardless of your beverage preferences, glassware is something you’ll need and use forever. I’d opt for crystal options, something you may not purchase for yourself down the road. We went with several of Waterford’s designs, including these universal wine goblets and high ball glasses.
- LINENS: I feel like the linen department can be underrated by some couples {most go straight for the kitchen}, but quality linens can make or break the look and feel of your bed + bath. Take your time researching, reading and feeling your linen options. Macy’s has so much variety to choose from, just make sure you’re registering for the fabric, count, etc. you’ll love!
- KNIVES: Whether you’re a big cook or not, having quality knives is so important in your kitchen. Ever try cutting a tomato with a dull knife? Ugh, no fun. Look for a stainless steel set with lots of variety. We personally love our Calphalon Set with a built in sharpener! Makes it so easy for me to sharpen the blades after every use.
- COFFEE / ESPRESSO MAKER: I don’t know a single couple, or single person for that matter, that doesn’t own a coffee or espresso maker of some kind. Your wedding registry is the perfect time for an upgrade! Get that fancy multi-piece caffeine maker you’ve always wanted!
