A few months back {before the mayhem of COVID-19 took us by storm}, myself and a small group of friends took a short drive over the bridge for a mini getaway at Bea’s Nest. A picturesque Isle of Palms rental house property a block from the beach, owned by Mary Jo {aka @Port2Palm} and her adorable family. They graciously allowed us to enjoy their second home for some much needed R&R, and just all around girl time. And what a treat it was! Naturally, I wanted to show ya’ll around the home, and encourage you to consider this property if you’re planning a Charleston trip!
I think we could all use a little taste of escape right now, so come away with me…
THE HOUSE
This 6 bedroom, 4 bath coastal style home is impeccably executed from the moment you step onto the front porch, throughout each room + out onto the pool patio. Classic white shiplap throughout, paired with thoughtfully designed rooms that are minimal + clean. Bea’s Nest is the definition of an epic beach house, yet tranquil escape.
The main floor consists of a cozy, casual front living space which opens up to the eat-in dining/kitchen area. The kitchen is by far one of my favorite rooms in the home. It’s so light + airy with a MASSIVE floating island, which makes for the perfect spot to not only food prep, but also a great communal area to sit, chat, drink wine, etc. The gals and I found ourselves in this spot often during our stay as it really is the heart of the home. This area also opens out to the covered indoor/outdoor dining, seating + pool area. Complete with outdoor shower, lounge chairs, grill, couches and dining table. It was still a little too chilly for us to take a dip, but the entire set-up would be perfect for a family or girl’s getaway.
From the main level, there are essentially two ‘upstairs areas’: second floor of the main house, and a separate living quarters above the garage. Both areas are connected through an upstairs outdoor walkway, and also through the downstairs patio. We were a small group, so contained ourselves in the main house during our stay, but the frog would be perfect for two families or couples traveling together! Beds were super comfy, along with spacious bathrooms.
In true Port2Palm fashion, the sentiments of ‘bees’ throughout the home is so heart warming. If you check out Mary Jo’s instagram you’ll really see + feel the love she has not only for her family, but for friends and her community as well! That warmth is absolutely translated to Bea’s Nest, which just makes guests feel right at home.
PRO TIP: book The Blue Root {a local catering company} for the ‘All Things Brunch’ spread one morning! Melissa is an Isle of Palms local, and makes some of the most delish zucchini brea you’ve ever had. Her spread come complete with front door delivery, which makes for a super easy, no-mess meal for the whole group/family!
THE LOCATION
Located a block from a public beach access point, Bea’s Nest is perfectly located on Isle of Palms to enjoy the water during your stay. Not necessarily walkable to restaurants + bars, but honestly, the home itself is such an oasis I’d recommend cooking or ordering in! And while it is about a 20-25 min drive from downtown Charleston, it’s the perfect balance of beach/pool time, while still being close enough to the city for a night out. I’ve also found a lot of visitors enjoy splitting their stays when coming to Charleston. I.E. two nights at a downtown loft, 2 nights at the beach, etc. We really do have the best of both worlds!
BOOKING THIS ISLE OF PALMS RENTAL HOUSE
They’re currently working on a more streamlined online calendar/booking set-up, but for now simply reach out to the property management company online for availability + pricing. Note: Bea’s Nest does book out quite far in advance, but absolutely worth the wait!
p.s. there’s a new addition to the Bea family! Mary Jo recently announced the Anderson’s latest project in Nantucket! Be sure to follow her account for booking info updates on ‘MeanToBea’ as well.
I miss traveling so much! Though it is a good idea to book a vacation for spring – a little bit of wishful thinking never hurt anybody (I sure hope so!) 🙂
