Contrary to popular belief, or what you see on the internet, not everyone {myself included} can afford to purchase a whole new wardrobe every season. Am I right?! So, I’d say my #1 tip for transitioning your existing spring/summer pieces to fall is invest in a good quality denim jacket! It’s the perfect piece to throw on over your favorite little white dress, a floral number from summer, or even a maxi dress like I did a couple years back. Heck – you can even style a denim jacket with white denim! That whole ‘no white after Labor Day’ doesn’t exists anymore, so go for it. A denim jacket can go with casual attire or slightly more dressy with the addition of heels and a lip pop.
I love the classic denim jacket look, like this Madewell version. But if you’re looking for something a little edgier or with more personality, Nordstrom has a slew of styles and hues to choose from. The key is to invest in this piece. Find a cut that’s just right for your body. Good denim lasts forever, so take the purchase seriously. I’m not saying you need to spent hundreds on a denim jacket, but it’s ok to splurge on a staple like this.
My first denim jacket was from Hollister {ok, so not seriously investing just yet haha} back in high school circa 2005 I think, and I legit just tossed it last year. It lasted forever! And I still wore it up until the color started to fade just a little too much. It was a goodie for sure. Not I have 2 that I really love: one is a darker denim and a little more cropped, the other is a lighter wash and a little more boyfriend style. They work well for different things and layering options, so I like having both to work with.
Do tell – do y’all have any ‘first denim jacket’ stories?!
